Kimberley Davis has been a passionate advocate for nearly 40 years, driven by her experiences as a caretaker for her children with sickle cell disease. Mariama Walters was studying to become a nurse when she passed away in 2007 at age 21. Kimberley’s son John Walters was a proud Howard University graduate and a valued public servant to a U.S. Senator. He passed away in 2021 at age 29. To honor John and Mariama, KMD Advocacy Center was created to make impactful change in the health and outcomes of individuals and families living with sickle cell disease and to change the tide of other families battling sickle cell disease. Kimberley's education and experience has been in policy, communications, teaching, research and co-founding a successful sickle cell clinic.
